MEXICO IS A COUNTRY OF NEW OPPORTUNITIES. Residence permit in Mexico.

The content of the article:

  • Popular Misconceptions about Mexico
  • Mexico City — capitals of bright colors
  • Residence permit in Mexico: a lot of advantages

What do you associate Mexico with? You've probably heard it more than once: "Burritos, tequila, sombreros and... Mexican bandits." Most likely, such misconceptions have developed thanks to the cinema, because many people have no idea what is there in this very country of Amigos.

Let's try to uncover the main misconceptions:

  • It is very dangerous in Mexico — Latinos always seem to have a short temper and a knife in their hands. But in fact, Mexico is statistically safer than many agricultural states of America. And in comparison with Canada, the risk that you will be offended in Mexico is 5 times less. Mexicans are cheerful and cheerful people. They are emotional, but they show it not through showdowns, but through songs and dances. It is not surprising that American pensioners who appreciate calmness and a measured life have fallen in love with the country. In the north, towards the borders with the United States, there is a small percentage of thefts, but at the same time there are no interethnic clashes in the country, and you need to keep an eye on your wallet everywhere: there are many times more pickpockets in Madrid and Barcelona than in Mexico City.
  • The poorest people these Mexicans are another far—fetched myth about beggars and poor Mexicans. Most represent a country in the desert with an eternally hungry and unemployed population. "So that I could live like this!" — let's say the catch phrase of the hero of the film. The average salary of Mexicans is about $1,000 in Cancun (a resort city) and about $500 on average in the country. Mexico is ranked 14th in the world in terms of economy. The main sources for economic development in the country are oil, ore, silver, as well as tourism. Over the past few years, everything has been pretty stable in the country, so investors have been attracted here. And it's not worth talking about international transfers, which are open to more than 100 countries. After difficulties with transfers due to sanctions, many Russians have discovered Mexican banks.
  • A woman in Mexico without rights — again, due to some films and distorted sources, many believe that women in Mexico are disenfranchised individuals. Yes, all the main places in politics are occupied mainly by men, but the role of a woman, especially a mother, is of great importance to Mexicans. It is not for nothing that the country celebrates Mother's Day very pompously, which is somewhat similar to our international Women's Day. Women in the country are respected and not offended, because each of them is someone's mother. And Mexicans love and pamper children very much, because children are “a gift from God” for them.
  • Roads in Mexico are a solid desert — another misconception that makes travelers think that there will be nothing to drive around the country. In fact, the quality of the roads is quite good, buses run all over the country, even in the most remote villages. And if you plan to travel around the cities, feel free to buy a ticket for an intercity bus, where there are air conditioners and televisions.
  • Ponchos and sombreros are the main clothes of Mexicans -- for most people, when the word “Mexican” immediately pops up a sombrero and poncho. Yes, as a cultural heritage, this national dress has a place to be. But after all, Russians are also associated with kokoshnik and bast shoes — this does not mean that we walk in this. Mexicans are neat and modern people. They follow fashion and always wear a tie to business meetings. And ponchos and sombreros are a great souvenir option that you can bring from this country.
  • Mexico is a hot desert — and this is another myth. Mexico is a country of diverse landscapes: from high mountain ranges to beautiful beaches with white sand. Undoubtedly, there are deserts here too, two of them (Chihuahua and Sonora), which occupy about a third of the country's territory and are located in the north. The temperature in the country is quite comfortable. Snow can lie high in the mountains all year round, and in July the temperature sometimes does not exceed 18 degrees. In more remote areas, on the coasts of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, temperatures reach 40 degrees in summer and about 15 degrees in winter.
  • Burritos — that's all they eat in Mexico — heading to Mexico, many people go with the idea that, most likely, there will be nothing to eat there. Tequila and burritos are all that awaits you. In fact, Mexican cuisine is very diverse: one beef fajita is worth a lot! And although Mexicans are used to using tortillas for many dishes, it's not just one dish. Nachos, guacamole and jalapeno were also invented here. And cocoa did not appear in Europe, but just in Mexico.
  • Tequila is the head of everything — again, inspired by fairy tales. Yes, tequila is a national alcoholic drink, made in addition not from a cactus, but from an agave plant, which belongs to the succulent family. But at the same time, you will be very surprised when you find out that Mexicans themselves prefer tequila beer, since it is not as strong and softer. Mexicans will be much more willing to meet with friends over a beer than to hang out with tequila. In addition, there are drinks in the country older than tequila, for example, low-alcohol pulque, which can now be tasted only in the state of Mexico.

The capital of beautiful Mexico is Mexico City. Many people have heard about the Aztecs, so the center of their cultural heritage remains the city of Mexico, which means "navel in the center of the Moon." Mexicans have been fighting for the right to call this city that way for a very long time, without Spanish innovations. And it was only in 2001 that RAE issued a recommendation that Mexico should correctly write through X. The city, which has defended its historical name, impresses with its diverse flavor: historical buildings and modern skyscrapers; old streets and expressways; simple eateries with street food and chic restaurants with fine Mexican cuisine. Mexico City is one of the most densely populated cities, which in terms of population is not inferior to the largest cities in the world. The capital of Mexico is also called an open-air museum, because despite the colonization of the country by the Spaniards and its liberation from capture through an uprising, the city has preserved the most ancient Aztec monuments: more than 1,400 monuments and historical relics, 10 archaeological zones, about 80 museums.
The modern city, while maintaining its historical flavor, has also contributed to the cultural heritage: 8 universities, several academies, theaters, concert halls and exhibitions have been built. In general, you will definitely not be bored here.

Well, if your goal is not just to visit the Gulf of Mexico country, but to get a residence permit, let's look at the advantages and opportunities in this matter.

advantages:

  • Mexican citizens can freely visit more than 160 countries. In most countries, a visa is not needed at all: EU countries, Great Britain and Japan. To visit Canada and New Zealand, you need to apply for an electronic entry permit, and you can get a visa to Australia online.
  • Due to the large number of expats, it is possible to settle in an area where most speak English, if Spanish is not your spoken language yet. There are entire neighborhoods in the country where foreigners prefer to settle with their diasporas.
  • Mild climate and diverse culture. Everyone can find a pleasant place to live here. There are tropical beaches, mountains, and nature reserves — it all depends on your preferences.
  • In Mexico, the principle of Jus soli (the right of the land) applies, which means that any person born in Mexico automatically receives citizenship of that country. Moreover, the citizenship of the parents does not matter. It is also noteworthy that the parents and next of kin of a newborn can apply for a permanent residence permit in Mexico.

RESIDENCE PERMIT IN MEXICO

There are two types of residence permits in Mexico:
temporary (Residencia Temporary) — for a period of 1 to 4 years;
permanent (Residencia Permanente) — issued after four years of living in Mexico on a temporary residence permit and is considered indefinite. After 5 years of living in the country (summing up all types of residence permits), you can make a request for citizenship.
It should be noted that a resident of the country with a permanent residence permit card has the same rights as a Mexican citizen, except for the right to vote in elections.

Permanent residence permit opens up such opportunities as:

  • get a job and open a business without being tied to a specific employer;
  • free medical insurance;
  • permanent residence is assigned permanently and does not require annual renewal;
  • you can leave and enter the country without restrictions.

There are two ways to obtain a residence permit and Mexican citizenship: without investment and for investment.

For investments:

  • purchase of real estate. In 2024, the amount of investments starts from 585,000 dollars. It is not allowed to invest in facilities located in a zone 100 km from the border and 50 km from the coast;
  • opening a company (business) — the cost of the company is at least $ 293,000;
  • opening a company with jobs for Mexicans — it is important to provide at least 5 jobs to indigenous Mexicans.

Residence permit and permanent residence without investment:

  • financial independence — savings in the amount of $ 73,000 allow you to obtain a residence permit, and having more than $ 290.000 in your accounts gives you the right to apply for permanent residence. This amount must be permanently in the applicant's accounts for more than a year. Pensioners whose monthly income is more than $ 6,000 can apply for permanent residence immediately without waiting periods;
  • student residence permit — issued for full-time study at a university in the country. The study period must be at least 180 days;
  • Work permit — can be obtained if the employer provides a contract and permission to hire foreigners;
  • Residence permit for childbirth — we noted above that thanks to a newborn, in Mexico, close relatives of the baby can get a residence permit;
  • PERMANENT residence through family reunification — upon confirmation of documents that your blood relatives are citizens of Mexico, you can also apply for permanent residence in this country. However, keep in mind that this process is not fast. It is necessary to prove the fact of kinship by collecting the necessary number of documents and waiting for permission;
  • for special merits — citizenship can be obtained for a significant contribution to the development of architecture and art;
  • marriage with a Mexican citizen — first a residence permit is issued, according to the marriage documents, then the spouse can make a request for permanent residence, and after that for citizenship.

All these methods are applicable after passing the following steps:

  • Open a category D visa
  • Move to Mexico
  • Get a residence permit
